"Commercial sites are the bread and butter of any serious web design business."

Most web designers have heard this adage many a time and it's perfectly true.  Without business sites, web designing would be a part time job for everyone. This, thankfully, is not the case.  The internet is a very big place and as such it has become a very big market place. And it's getting bigger. More businesses are signing up for web sites now than ever before. After all, it is the future of marketing and sales. . . .

Anyone in business will realise the opportunities in expanding their market share, turning
a local market into a worldwide one. The possibilities are endless. I own a number of small businesses on the net and all are doing well, I'm pleased to say. Sales are increasing and although small in comparison to many businesses, mine have grown and I'm exporting around the globe now, something I'd never considered before getting into computing some years ago. I'd go so far as to say the future's looking quite healthy.

The initial cost of a site is not huge when compared to the cost of advertising. A one-off fee for a site compared to ongoing advertising costs can mean big savings over a short period of time. A web site maintenance contract is cheap by any standards.  If the web site is used as an alternative, or a filip to advertising, which generally tends to be the case, the advantages are plain to see. Another style of media for improving sales.

Even businesses which only trade locally, and may only want to, restaurants, take-aways, pubs and clubs, local tradespeople, etc., it's quite surprising how local internet trade can boost their sales, whether it be solely by advertising or for ordering products online.

If a site is to be for online "e-commerce", shopping carts, secure trading and banking can all be arranged together with databases for prices and stock. If a site is to be mainly for advertising, obviously it wouldn't be as involved and would cost less.

So there you have it. "Web Presence in a bottle". It's relatively inexpensive, not difficult to look after, and above all, it can be very profitable. What more could you ask for?
